This blogsite was launched on 1 January 2010 — on a new year and a new decade — as a place for me to (re)collect and share various aspects and issues of design and creativity, in the broadest and inclusive sense.

Dr Tan is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the National University of Singapore, specialising in design-creativity.  He was seconded to the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA), Singapore, from 2002-09, where he was the founding Executive Director of the DesignSingapore Council, the government’s lead agency for the integrated promotion and development of Singapore’s fast-growing design cluster.

Dr Tan’s other key appointments include: Member of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Agenda Council on the Design of Complex Systems; Senior Advisor and Jury member of Denmark’s INDEX Award; International Advisory Panel member of Seoul World Design Capital 2010; Board Member of the Singapore Housing Development Board; former Board Member of the Singapore Land Transport and the Urban Redevelopment Authorities; Editorial Board Member of the International Journal for Design Computing; Immediate Past President of the Harvard Club of Singapore.  Dr Tan was conferred The Public Service Medal by the President of Singapore in 2009.

A Design Strategist, Dr Tan has also been a jury member for architecture and design awards and competitions including the International Design Award of the Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), the Observeur Design Award of France, and iF Design Award China; Singapore Management University and OneNorth masterplans; the National Library and NTUC architecture competitions; academic paper referee; and speaker at international conferences.  Dr Tan is a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and UK Chartered Architect, holds a BA and BArch from Nottingham University, and a PhD in design creativity from Harvard.
